This quote is from Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Les MIs is a story of a convict, Jean Valjean, in his journey of hope during the french revolution. This quote, even the darkest of night will end and the sun will rise, means no matterhow terrible life is, there is always hope. The different colors, red and blue are meant to look like the sunrise that inspires hope, but also, if you turn it on its side, it is the french flag. Even though the book centers around Jean Valjean, he finds love from a young girl called Cosette. Her mother was one of his employees, and since Fantine could not look after her, she was sent to live with the Thernandiers (in which she worked as a household slave). When Valjean takes her in, she is given hope and to her, there is no more darkness. In the red, you may have noticed a set of empty chairs and empty tables. Les Miserables takes place in the early eightienth century of France, up until the end of the french revolution. When the students met at the cafe, they would sit at tables and talk of revolution, but as they gave their life to freedom, these chairs became empty, but not empty of dreams about the future. To me, the stars in the blue symbolize how even in darkness, there still may be hope, even if small. No one is ever left in complete darkness, if only they look for the light.
